About Bank
Created January 26, 1959 under the Central Bank in Malaysia in 1958 (Revised -1994). A statutory body wholly owned by the Government of Malaysia with paid-up capital gradually to RM100 million. Bank reports to the Minister of Finance, Malaysia, and maintain the Minister informed of issues relating to monetary and fiscal policy.
Roles and functions
Other important roles of the West Bank is a banking and government adviser, and plays an active role in providing advice on macroeconomic policies and debt management service. It is also the sole authority to issue currency and management of international reserves.
And supports the role of the Bank by 37 departments / units of the Bank covering the seven functional areas as follows:
Economic and monetary policy
Provides a good basis for technical support and research on issues related to growth, to improve the cash position and credit in the promotion of monetary stability and ensuring adequate availability of credit to finance economic growth.
Investment and operations
Management of domestic liquidity and exchange rates to ensure the achievement of the objectives of monetary policy and management of external reserves to maintain its value and best performance. It also has a responsibility to provide advice and assistance to the Government in the area of ââdebt, and management of the Fund and to help develop the domestic financial market.
Organization
Payment systems
Develop policies and strategies to promote reliable, safe and efficient clearing, settlement and payment systems in the country.
Supervision
Develop, improve and implement the framework for effective monitoring to ensure the safety and integrity of financial institutions and the implementation of sound practices in them.
